Triple-band Beam Switching Antenna Based on Active Frequency Selection Surfaces

摘要
In this paper, a beam switching antenna based on a novel active decagon prismatic frequency selective surface (ADPFSS) is presented. The proposed antenna system consists of an omnidirectional antenna and the ADPFSS, which is made up of 10 columns with 3 active frequency selective surface (AFSS) unit cells each, printed on every side face of the decagon prismatic substrate. The frequency selective surface loading PIN diodes can show different resonance characteristic when the diodes stay in different cases. Thus, by controlling the direct current (DC) bias voltage of PIN diodes in every column, AFSS can be reconfigured as transparent or opaque to the incident electromagnetic waves. Therefore, the radiation pattern of the antenna system, such as beam direction, beamwidth and the number of beam, can be controlled by the number and location of the ON station columns. The antenna structural model is simulated by Ansoft HFSS software. The results show that this antenna system can work within the WLAN and WIMAX band, centered on 2.4, 3.5, and 5.2GHz. And its beam direction can be agilely switched covering a full 360 degrees angular range.
