Dynamic behavior of gravity type quay wall and surrounding soil during earthquake

摘要
After the 1995 Hanshin-Awaji earthquake, the problem of lateral spreading of liquefied soil on reclaimed islands is attracting a great deal more attention. This is because such large horizontal displacements of the ground as was seen in the 1995 Hanshin-Awaji earthquake can cause significant damage to foundations. This paper presents the results from a series of centrifuge tests on the dynamic behavior of quay walls, piles and the surrounding soil using a scale model of a single pile behind a quay wall in a soil box.
