THE FREEDOM OF THE WILL IN THE BEATIFIC VISION. SU?REZ'S CRITIQUE OF OCKHAM

The beatific vision is the clear and supernatural contemplation of God's essence. Necessarily, therefore, it comes with infinite enjoyment (fruitio). In scholastic thought, enjoyment is generally considered an act of the will. So the question is: is the will free if it necessarily enjoys God in the beatific vision? And if it is not free, whence does the necessity stem? The present study deals with these questions through Suarez's criticism of Ockham.
