Radiation Properties Enhancement of a Microstrip Antenna Using a New UC-EBG Structure

摘要
A new uni-planar compact electromagnetic bandgap (UC-EBG) structure is presented. The surface waves excited by the patch antenna are prevented from propagation by the EBG structures. By using the EBG proposed at resonant frequency, the antenna gain and the back radiation are improved from 6dB to 9dB and -2dB to -20dB respectively, while the antenna bandwidth remains approximately constant (3.6%).
