Platform management systems in the Royal Navy today and tomorrow

The Royal Navy's first digitally controlled warship propulsion plant has been at sea for seven years. New platforms currently being planned and built will use today's technology in their platform control systems. Those control arrangements are described to illustrate not only their similarities, but also their differences. A view of the future is given by examining the marine engineering strategy for the future, exemplified in the all electric warship. The controls possibilities for this application are discussed.
