River Water Quality Modeling and Sediment Pollution Evaluation

摘要
The Yen-Sui River is a one of the major city rivers in southern Taiwan. Sediments are the sinks for water pollutants, and thus, sediments and river water quality investigation need to be performed to evaluate the contaminant distribution in the river water body. Sediment and river water quality investigation results indicate that the river water contained high concentrations of suspended solids and organics, and sediments contained high concentrations of organics and heavy metals. Sediment and river pollution sources came from municipal and industrial wastewaters. The suspended solids in the river were also the sources of sediments. The proposed sediment and river water quality improvement strategies included the following: (1) construction of sewer and intercepting sewer systems, (2) installation of on-site wastewater treatment facilities for temporary wastewater treatment, (3) construction of natural treatment system for river water treatment, and (4) river water dilution with unpolluted surface water.
