摘要
Deep space missions tend to capture the public imagination in a way that communications and weather satellites cannot. One of the reasons is the enormity of the journey these spacecraft must undertake to complete their missions. From an engineering point of view, the distance factor presents a challenge in providing a capable and reliable communications system that allows commands to be sent to the spacecraft and data to be returned. Over the years, NASA has successfully developed means to mitigate the problem.
