摘要
Short message service (SMS) for text messaging and associated applications in areas such as mobile banking (m-banking) is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in the Asia Pacific (AP) markets. The SMS traffic demand is typically several times that of the voice traffic in terms of busy hour call attempts (BHCA). In addition, the reliability and the end-to-end message delay are critical for many banking applications. This presents a huge challenge to the capability of the CDMA2000* system, particularly to the paging channel of the base station. The ability to handle the large volumes of SMS messages efficiently and effectively is critical not only to system performance but also to system capacity. This paper presents Alcatel-Lucent's innovative paging channel strategy to handle the heavy SMS traffic load and the optimization of system parameters for efficiently and reliably delivering short messages. The paper concludes with a case study. (c) 2007 Alcatel-Lucent.
