POWER measurements no longer involve an average reading of a continuous-wave (CW) signal. Modern communications systems employ complex modulation formats that send signals in pulsed bursts-transforming today's power measurements into more of an exercise in statistical analysis than the mere detection of RF power. For that reason, current lines of commercial power meters offer impressive signal-processing and analysis capabilities, along with data-transfer speeds designed to keep high-volume production lines moving.
