On 27 December 2008, a new light-rail system, 20 miles long, with 28 stations, began revenue service in Arizona, linking the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. The light-rail vehicle is the most visible aspect of the system and contains many modern and innovative features, a number of them unique in U.S. and international light-rail vehicle design Figure 1. © 2006 IEEE.
