A comprehensive linear stability analysis of models for Wolf-Rayet stars is presented. The influence of opacity and chemical composition on stability, with respect to radial perturbations, is investigated systematically. Strange-mode instability with growth rates in the dynamical range is found to be typical for all models of Wolf-Rayet stars: critical masses for the onset of instability lie between 3 and 5 M(.). Several specific predictions of a heuristic model for strange-mode instability proposed recently are successfully tested on selected Wolf-Rayet star models.
