摘要
Five different series of copolyesters based on terephthaloyl chloride with aromatic and aliphatic diols were synthesized by the interfacial solution polymerization method. The polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, (HNMR)-H-1, TGA, DSC and WAXD. TGA and DSC data reveal that copolyesters containing (50: 50) methyl hydroquinone and aliphatic diols possess very good thermal stability. DSC analysis shows that copolyesters of higher aliphatic diol percentage (> 50%) are melt processable. Solubility was also checked in some common organic solvents and it showed that higher percentage aliphatic diol (> 50%) and 1, 10 decane diol containing polymers show better solubility. Copolyesters containing 50% aliphatic diol did not melt till 500 degrees C and did not show liquid crystalline behavior whereas copolyesters having higher aliphatic diol (> 50%) and 1, 10 decane diol show thermotropic liquid crystallinity by polarized microscopy.
