Among cathode materials for Li-ion batteries, layered Li[Ni, Co, Mn]O-2 with hexagonal structure have drawn significant attention recently due to their excellent energy density. In the present study, Li[Ni1/3Mn1/3Co1/3]O-2 was prepared using a sol-gel assisted combustion method. Rietveld refinement of room temperature X-ray diffraction data confirmed the crystallization of single-phase hexagonal Li[Ni1/3Mn1/3Co1/3]O-2 in space group R (3) over barm with calculated lattice parameters a = 2.8615(8)angstrom and c = 14.229(1) angstrom. Impedance spectroscopy was used to study the electrical properties of LMN ceramics. DC conductivity was found to be 5.1x10(-3) Omega(-1)m(-1) at room temperature and obeyed the Arrhenius relation with activation energy E-A = 0.27 +/- 0.01 eV.
