Simulation of nozzle clogging during the continuous casting of aluminum-killed steel

摘要
A casting simulation apparatus has been built to measure the effect of metallurgical and refractory factors on nozzle clogging. Measurements taken with the apparatus are used to calculate a clogging factor(CF). The CF provides a quantitative method of evaluating different factors on the rate of accretion formation. Cathodoluminescent microscopy of nozzles used in the simulation has shown the accretions in the simulation nozzles to be reasonably similar to those found in industry.
