Arthroscopic debridement for anterolateral soft tissues impingement of the ankle

Aim. The authors reported their experience, with arthroscopic debridement, in the treatment of the impingement of the anterolateral soft tissues of the ankle in 10 athletes. Methods. All these patients had a history of single or multiple inversion injuries, without instability. Their age was from 18 to 50 years (mean 32.6) 7 men and 3 women. The follow-up was from 12 months to 22 months (medium 18). Results. The results were excellent or good in 8 patients (80%) and fair in 2 (20%). Conclusion. The authors conclude that the artroscopic debridement of soft tissue impingement, in absence of important osteochondral lesions, produces good results with easy return to activity level.
