An attempt has been made to correlate the total solar radiation with cloud cover and relative sunshine duration for three Nigerian stations-Gusau, Potiskum and Yola. For Potiskum, an excellent fit was obtained (standard error of estimate less than or equal to 0.003, adjusted coefficient of determination = 0.996, and maximum percentage error less than or equal to 0.90%) for both yearly and seasonal variations. For the other two stations, satisfactory results were also obtained, especially when seasonal variations are considered. (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
