A Review of Studies of the May Fourth Movement in China over the Past Decade

During the past decade (2000-2010), Chinese scholars have produced a number of important works on the May Fourth movement, a landmark event in modern Chinese history. These works have benefited from new insights and new research methods as well as the growing public interest in the subject. By providing an evaluation of their accomplishment, the article also discusses the basic condition of academic research on the May Fourth movement in particular and historical study in general in today's China.
