New copper(II) azino complexes

A new series of Cu(II) complexes of the type [Cu(L-1)(2)(H2O)(2)], [Cu(L-2)(2)(EtOH)(2)], [CU(L-3)(H2O)(2)](2)SO4 . 8H(2)O, [Cu(L-4)(H2O)(2)]SO4 . 2H(2)O, and [Cu(L-5)(2)] . 5H(2)O (where HL1 = o-hydroxybenzalazino-alpha-ethylidenylcarboxylic acid, HL2 = methyl-o-hydroxybenzalazino-alpha-ethylidenyl carboxylic acid, H2L3 = benzalazinoazino-alpha-ethylidenylcarboxylic acid, H2L4 = o-hydroxymethylbenzalazinoethylidenyl-alpha-(o-benzoic acid) and H2L5 = o-hydroxybenzalazinoethylidenyl-alpha-(o-benzoic acid) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, conductance measurements and IR spectra. Electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements of the solid complexes indicate a distorted octahedral geometry around Cu2+ leading to a square-planar arrangement of the ligands.
