The authors compare retrospectively the results of treatment of patients with symptomatic simple liver cysts, treated between 1990 and 1997 by two different approaches: conventional "open" surgery and laparoscopy. The results were similar in both groups. In favour of laparoscopic method, however, are: the lesser invasiveness of surgery, shorter time of hospitalisation and convalescence after the procedure which enables early return to normal activity of the patient.
