Flamenco music, with its clear popular reminiscences produced by the influence of different peoples and cultures in contact with Andalusia, presents a series of unique musical characteristics that provide an unmistakable stamp of identity. The nature of the most popular instrument for playing this music, the flamenco guitar, is not for concerts, but rather to accompany and respond to the demands of singing and dancing, and thus it takes into account a formal structure that is open and susceptible to variation. This article analyzes the singularity that characterizes musical discourse about the flamenco guitar in relation to form. It will allow us to understand what two forms must be present in an improvisation on the flamenco guitar and how that practice should be enhanced.
