摘要
Expert Systems (ES) have been the most successful branch of AI research with regard to real applications in organizations [1]. In developed countries the number of applications grows year by year [2]. In Mexico, in the same way of other countries, Expert Systems field was firstly introduced in academic context from the ending 80's, but the number of applications reported by Information Systems Departments is still small in spite of a decade of academic experience in the field [3]. This paper reviews the relevance of ES; then analyzes the problem of the small number of ES developments in IS departments of mexican organizations and claims the main reason is the lack of a comprehensive method expressed in terms and concepts of the IS context; further it presents a method called IIE (Intelligent Information Engineering) [4] which has been proved in a dozen of projects and finally it suggests a set of guidelines to future applied research.
