The EU regulations on chemicals, the REACH Regulation (Regulation (EC) 1907/2006) and the CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) 1272/2008) came into force in 2006 and 2008. Although these two regulations are not occupational safety and health regulations, they have far-reaching effects on occupational safety and health. Derived No Effect Levels (DNELs) have been introduced in the process. The scope provided by the first DNELs for the assessment of exposure at the workplace is explained with reference to examples.
