Enhancement of the breakdown strength in accelerators with radio-frequency quadrupole focusing

摘要
On the basis of experimental data on the effect of the electron loading in accelerators with radiofrequency quadrupole focusing and their analytical processing, a conclusion is drawn that the electrodes of the accelerating system are contaminated during the operation of an ion gun. Special measures, including the purification of the proton beam in the matching channel and cleaning of the electrodes of the accelerating system by RF conditioning, reduce the effect of the electron loading and enhance the breakdown strength of the accelerating structure up to 450 kV/cm.
