摘要
The engineering effort in the Internet industry is powered by four fundamental driving forces: technology push, finance, market pull and competition. IP is the point where all these trends converge. Some predictions even estimate that in 2002 95% of all communications traffic will be IF. However, the Internet traditionally provides a service that is commonly characterized as a best-effort service. Currently a lot of effort is put in defining new mechanisms for the Internet in order to be able to provide IP transport services with certain guarantees for the throughput, delay, jitter and packet loss. In this paper we will describe the design process of an all-IF infrastructure that supports high QoS services. In particular, all steps in the design process for supporting high quality interactive voice will be discussed. This includes an in-depth analysis of the delay involved in the delivery of voice. In addition, an analysis for the simultaneous delivery of voice and video will be given, with regard to the delay and packet size.
