On the improved multistage partial parallel interference cancellation receiver for UMTS

In this paper, we derive an upper bound of the partial cancellation parameter for the improved linear multistage partial parallel interference cancellation (MPPIC) scheme for WCDMA/UMTS communication systems. The bound is found assuming that the number of stages is large enough to reach the steady state and the number of interferer users is large. The MPPIC scheme considered in the analysis is designed to deal with the UMTS multirate scenario, which includes data and control streams with different data rates and both channelization and scrambling codes. The application of the bound derived influences the selection of the cancellation parameter at the different stages of the receiver and leads to an improvement of its performance. Simulation results show the improvement found on the system performance when this bound is taken into account in the MPPIC receiver.
