Using the McCall's Quality Model and the ISO-9126 Standard for User Evaluation of Information System Quality

Information systems are a fundamental tool in the daily operation of organizations. Software is a totally abstract object of which users only perceive its effect, but cannot know how it is built. In addition, users traditionally participate only in the initial stages or at the end of the construction of a new system. This research involved users in the evaluation of software quality through a case study where two different groups of users participated in the evaluation of two prototypes of the same system. They were evaluated using questionnaires constructed based on McCall's (1977) quality model combined with a standard (ISO/IEC_9126-1, 2001). The results indicate that user participation in quality evaluation really impacts quality.
