In the period 1992-1995 313 patients were treated for malignant liver tumors. The diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma was established in 118 cases. In 84 cases the tumor was inoperable. We present our experience with intraoperative alcoholization (19 cases) and perarterial chemoembolization (43 cases). None of these methods is effective in all cases. Etanol injection resulted in temporary reduction of the neoplasmatic mass in 73%. Repeated chemoembolization resulted in significant improvement in 20 cases, in 16 cases it's effect was doubtful and in 7 cases it was evidently uneffective. 18 patients (42%) survived more than one year, in 15 of them no progress of malignancy was noticed.
