In this paper, a Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element formulation for the solution of free vibration problems of anisotropic continua is described. The problems encountered with the fundamental and particular solutions are explained and some questions regarding their choice and implementation are answered. A three-dimensional numerical example is given by which the influence of the internal collocation points on the representation of the mass matrix and the occurrence of complex-valued eigenfrequencies is investigated. The results that are obtained for the eigenfrequencies and mode shapes are compared to FE computations and excellent agreement is observed.
