New genera of terrestrial isopods (Oniscidea: Philosciidae) from South America, with remarks on some species

When dealing with the genus Philoscia Latreille, 1804, one will encounter species that differ considerably from the generic diagnosis. Particularly tropical members of this genus described at the turn of the century are ascribed to this genus because of superficial similarity of the body shape or the like. For a phylogenetic analysis of the Oniscidea on lower taxonomic level, it is necessary to deal with monophyletic taxa. To shed new light on some South American species of the genus Philoscia, a re-examination of the following species was done: Philoscia (Ischioscia) mineri van Name, 1936, P. (I.) nitida (Miers 1877), P. (I.) debilis Budde-Lund, 1893, P. kartaboana van Name, 1936, P. inquilina van Name, 1936, P. roraimae Van Name, 1936, P. omissa van Name, 1936, P. moneaguensis van Name, 1936, P. seriepunctata Budde-Lund, 1893, P. diminuta Budde-Lund; 1885 and P. walkeri Pearse, 1915. Four new monotypic genera are proposed for above mentioned species based on autapomorphies of these species.
