Policies and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Romania

According to Kyoto Protocol provisions, Romania is to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by eight percent by 2008-2012 compared to the base year 1989 selected by invoking the Article 3.4 and 3.5. The key responsibility of Annex I Parts, including the 12 Central and Eastern European countries, is to ensure that their actual emissions during the 2008-2012 period do not exceed their targets. In order to cope with this requirement the Government has analyzed, implemented and is to put into practice appropriate policies and measures to reduce emissions for the following sectors: residential, commercial and institutional buildings, industry, transport, energy supply, agriculture and forest. The national emission projections based on energy and non-energy sector development meet the Kyoto Protocol reduction provision.
