THE LEGAL BACKGROUND AND THE POLICIES PROMOTING THE CULTURAL IDENTITY OF ETHNIC MINORITIES IN ROMANIA

For a long time, there have been in Romania preoccupations concerning the subject of setting a legal background which should lead to an equal treatment for all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity. Numerous ethnical minorities have lived in this country during the time. Thus, a series of prescriptions have appeared in order to ensure the protection, the preservation and the development of identitary particularities of the minorities in Romania. This contribution aims to present the legal background which guarantees the rights to preserve develop and express the ethnical, cultural, linguistic and religious identities to the people belonging to ethnical minorities, on one side; and the way in which national minorities manage to affirm their own identity, on the other side.
