Effect of severe plastic deformation and subsequent annealing on the structure and properties of the Kh20N80 alloy

Using the alloy Kh20N80, the specific features of transformation of a coarse-grained structure into a nanocrystalline state upon severe plastic deformation by torsion under a quasi-hydrostatic pressure of 6 GPa at room temperature are considered. Electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and microhardness measurements have been used to study the effect of severe plastic deformation (SPD) on the structure and properties of the alloy. It is shown that the nanocrystalline structure produced is nonequilibrium and retains its thermal stability to a temperature not higher than 500degreesC.
