Genetic testing has evolved rapidly over the past two decades and is becoming commonplace in pediatrics. This statement provides an overview of recent developments that may have implications for genetic testing in children. Genetics is an evolving field, and this statement focuses on expanded newborn screening, next-generation sequencing, incidental findings, direct-to-consumer testing, histocompatibility testing, and genetic testing in the research setting.
