A computational approach to the problem of a plane strain consolidation of a pore-elastic layer on a rough base

摘要
The paper considers the problem of plain strain consolidation of a loaded clay layer of thickness h on a smooth impervious or pervious base. It follows the work given by Mursic, who expanded the approach given by several preceding works by involving the advantage of such boundary conditions at the interface that allow the layer to adhere to the rough rigid base that can be pervious or impervious. His equations obtained by successive usage integral transforms resulted in a form where the settlement time-history is obtained as result of an integral of an infinite sum and the final settlement equation has a form of an infinite integral. The final form of the equations for pervious and impervious base was too complex for a direct computation and a massive support of the computer was demanded. The paper presents a numerical study where the practical aspect of above mentioned formulas is discussed.
