Derivation and experiment on DOP for PMD compensation

摘要
A mathematical relationship between the degree of polarization (DOP), the pulse width and the differential group delay (DGD) was derived. DOP expression was simplified when a pulse function was substituted by a Guassian pulse. Curves of theoretical calculations for DOP versus DGD under different pulse widths were given. Experiments were done using a polar-meter for measuring the degree of polarization of a 10Gbit/s RZ pseudo random sequences. Comparisons between theoretical calculations and experimental results were also made and both match well within a certain range of DGD.
