The Application of MOOC in the Liberal Arts Education in Colleges and Universities

There is a rapid development of Internet in the 21st century, and it swept all aspects of people's life. With the continuously upgrading of the Internet, online education has not stopped the pace of research and practice, and MOOC also develops in a rapid way as a kind of newly appeared online course. As a new teaching mode, MOOC develops rapidly in the liberal arts education in colleges and universities due to its advantages of "massive", "open" and "not restricted by time and space" and so on. In recent years, there is a rise of a new kind of massive online course called MOOC in the worldwide, its rise has caused a significant impact on education, especially liberal arts education in colleges and universities, and its development must bring huge changes to liberal arts education in colleges and universities at the same time. Under the influence of this kind of online course, liberal arts education in colleges and universities is facing with opportunities and challenges as well. As a result, this paper mainly makes an analysis of the application of MOOC in the liberal arts education in colleges and universities. The first part of this paper gives a brief introduction of this paper and the definition of MOOC. The second part discusses the advantages and disadvantages of MOOC. The third part of this paper discusses the opportunities facing liberal arts education in colleges and universities. The fourth part of this paper makes an analysis of the challenges facing liberal arts education in colleges and universities. The last part of this paper discusses the cold thinking of hot MOOC application and gives a brief conclusion as well.
