摘要
Windows typically comprise the weakest link in sound insulation amongst all the components in a building facade, thus making them good paths for low-frequency noise transmission. Here, the effect on sound transmission of adding non-periodic stiffening elements to windows is explored. The contribution of elastic mounting to low-frequency noise transmission is also considered. A finite element model allowing for both resilient panel mounting and the addition of variable stiffness beams within the panel was constructed. The model allows for variable positioning of beam elements as part of a stiffened panel configuration. Experimental sound transmission loss testing of panels with variable edge stiffness was performed to verify the character of the predictions seen in the models. The results show that the low-frequency sound transmission loss below 150 Hz can be increased by several dB through careful use of stiffening elements, while resilient mounting generally decreases the low-frequency sound transmission loss of windows.
