A single step synthesis of 8-oxotetrahydroprotoberberines (57-82%) by the addition of lithiated 2-(o-tolyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines on 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines is described. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
