Non-Ohmic Conductivity of High-Resistance Layers of Diamond-Like Carbon

摘要
In this paper, we study the field dependences of the conductivity of Pt/DLC/Pt structures based on thin (20 nm) high-resistivity layers of diamond-like carbon (DLC). The dependence of electrical conductivity sigma on electric field E was found to have a threshold character and obeys law ln sigma(E) proportional to E-1/2. The revealed features are explained based on the concept of non-ohmic properties of disordered systems with a random Coulomb potential, which is formed in DLC layers by fluctuations of their composition associated with the presence of low-resistance sp(2) nanoclusters in a diamond-like sp(3) matrix. The characteristic size of sp(2) nanoclusters estimated using the percolation model is approximate to 4 nm.
