CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S DEPARTURE ON HOLIDAYS, STAKES FOR REGIONS? The departure of children and young people on holidays still remains a stake open to all. Indeed, more than 2.8 millions children and youths did not go on holidays in 2004 (last data available from the INSEE inquest); and more than 2 millions did not even go away on two consecutive nights or a week-end in the course of the same year After analyzing the holiday habits of the children and youths the authors question the stakes as an instrument of social pedagogy before examining the various levels of commitment of the regions in this field. Two systems are more specifically studied in Aquitaine, the "rucksack" operation and the project "first departure on holidays".
