Enhanced MPPT Technique for Rapid Varying Solar Irradiance in a PV System

Conventional MPPT algorithms such as Incremental Conductance (INC), are tailored to maintain operation of a PV system at Maximum Power Point (MPP) while avoiding steady state oscillations that contribute to power loss. While such conventional MPPT algorithms have been designed for ideal operating situations, very few are able to deliver true maximum power quickly and efficiently. In this paper, a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) MPPT technique is proposed for fast track the MPP with reduced response time under rapid varying irradiance condition. Simulated results in SIMULINK demonstrate that the proposed FLC MPPT tracking accuracy is 99.91% and tracks the MPP under average 0.375 milliseconds with 0.409 second response time for rapid varying irradiance changes while maintaining a very low average 0.05% steady state oscillation when the MPP is tracked.
