摘要
Translation involves not only issues concerning language but also issues concerning culture. Therefore, translation is a cross-cultural communication activity in nature. At present, cultivation of cross-cultural awareness of students in teaching of English translation is still insufficient in colleges and universities in China, which then results in unsatisfactory effectiveness of teaching of English translation. In this paper, the role-play cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in teaching of English translation is elaborated in a systematic way in order to explore new approaches to improve cross-cultural awareness of students and effectiveness of teaching. The ultimate purpose of language learning is to acquire great competence in foreign languages and cultures and realize satisfactory and effective communication by using target languages. Therefore, importance should be attached to not only basic English teaching but also cultivation of cross-cultural awareness of students for the purpose of making them fully grasp and use knowledge about English language structure and cultural characteristics during communication and translation. If students lack of cross-cultural awareness, their English communication will be impacted and quality of their translation will thus be impacted. In this paper, the role played by cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in teaching of college English translation is elaborated in a systematic way.
