摘要：
A new criterion is proposed for the forced exudation of pore water and variations in the porosity of soil under a structure-induced load. A more complex mechanism is revealed for the consolidation of cohesive soils as compared with the traditional approach, and consolidation parameters that improve the accuracy of settlement prediction are proposed.
