With the development of economy and technology, the research of the digital city is deepened day by day. Digital garden, which is an important component of the digital city, has been taken more and more attention by the society. As a result, the system has got a rapid development. With the support of the GIS's powerful integrated spatial information processing capability and visual performance capacity, the system provides a brand-new philosophy to plan, build, and manage the garden as well as a measure to control it. From the view of the garden department, it is useful to recognize the present situation of the city landscape engineering, to set up a maturity database and to guide the planning. In this paper, it starts with the basic conception of digital garden, describes the overall goals of construction. On the basis, the article takes the construction of Wuhan digital garden system as an example, discusses the functions and characteristics of garden information system. It also analyzes the key technologies in the system, including data standardization, data acquisition, and the construction of database system, also the method of integrating high and new technologies, including GIS, RS, GPS, database, high speed broadband network etc. According to the principles above, Wuhan digital garden system is implemented successfully, and the system operates very well. Eventually a reasonable solution for the garden information system based on GIS is put forward
