摘要
Media filter drains (MFDs), which are also known as Ecology Embankments, are linear best management practices used by many state departments of transportation (DOTs) for highway runoff treatment. Initial studies on the MFD indicated that their life spans were at least10 years. Recent studies indicate that for dissolved zinc and copper metal removal, the life span may exceed 20 years. This study extended the life further in laboratory tests for media from existing MFDs, indicating that the life might be many decades. Zinc and copper are particularly of concern for various aquatic species and the removal rates were extremely high.
