摘要
Current data indicates a decrease in the prevalence of periodontitis. Nevertheless, demographic change is expected to increase the need for periodontal treatment in the population. Orthodontic treatment in adults will thus increasingly face new challenges. Correct diagnosis, risk assessment and treatment planning adapted to the periodontal conditions are decisive for the success of the treatment. In addition to knowledge of the biomechanically relevant changes in the periodontally compromised dentition, intensive interdisciplinary cooperation between orthodontists and periodontists is essential. This article provides an overview of the interdisciplinary intersections as well as the orthodontically relevant consequences of periodontitis that must be considered in the course of treatment planning and implementation. Furthermore, an interdisciplinary treatment pathway is presented, as well as various orthodontic measures that can contribute to the restoration of a stable periodontal condition within the framework of interdisciplinary periodontal therapy.
