Research on energy consumption of variable frequency chilled water pumps in air-conditioning systems

摘要
Based on the fact that chilled water loop resistance varies with the air-conditioning loads, a general formula of the energy consumption of variable frequency (VF) chilled water pumps in a primary system is obtained. Analysis shows that pump's affinity laws cannot be directly applied to determine the energy consumption of VF chilled water pumps and the consumed energy is not proportional to the cube of pump speed, but varies with the constant-differential-pressure water-head, air conditioning loads, capacity distribution characteristics or the locations of AHUs (air-handling units) and the resistance coefficient of the chilled water loop.
