Pulse combustion is a periodic oscillating combustion process. Compared with conventional burners, Pulse combustors have many advantages, such as thermal efficiencies of 95% or more, low pollutant (NOx and CO) emissions, self-aspiration, and high rates of heat transfer in the tail pipe. In this paper, a Helmholtz-type pulse combustion system was designed. The capacity of the pulse combustor is 25kW, and it uses liquefied petroleum gas as a fuel with the features of flapper valves and frequency ranges from 60 to 115Hz. The pressures of combustion chamber were monitored by a piezoelectric pressure transducer. The variation of the pressure amplitude and frequency with the length of tail tube was discussed. The influence of the operating parameters, such as flow of liquefied petroleum gas, length of tail pipe and so on, on the pressure, emission of NOx and CO, working performance of pulse combustor was analyzed.
