Social security for unorganised sector

In the context of the changes in the world economy and the decline of the welfare state, there is considerable debate on the need to provide social security to the informal sector. In the past there have been attempts to extend benefits which have been available to the unorganised sector to the informal sector, which has not been very successful. This paper explores these possible mechanisms for social security provisions: insurance, social security funds and state supported child care.
