Applications of bulk high temperature semiconductors

A single-grain bulk high temperature superconductor RE-Ba-Cu-O (RE:rare earth elements) with large critical current density (J(c)) values can exhibit a large electromagnetic force through the interaction with magnetic fields. Large magnetic fields over several Tesla can also be trapped by such high J(c) bulk superconductors. Many practical applications have been proposed using bulk RE-Ba-Cu-O superconductors and some prototypes have already been developed. In this article, we summarize the present status of the applications for bulk high temperature superconductor RE-Ba-Cu-O.
